I've been asked, what's the story with this painting? It started with scribbled notes from meetings during my day job at Cornell University. I'm an uncontrollable habitual doodler. On a deeper level: this is an absurd painting for absurd times. Every time I catch the news, I'm overcome with absurdity. So this is me engaging with some of that absurdity...

I looked over my notebook scrawls, and just playfully composed whatever looked like fun to paint. There's no logic. I'm not really feeling a lot of logic these days. I don't want to overthink it too much... but it may be interesting to note that there is a sense of divisions and partitions and boundaries... of creatures living in their own separate worlds, yet crossing over here and there, all interconnected.
Anyhoo, I'm planning on exploring more paintings like this real soon. Plenty more material to draw from in my meeting notes. And no lack of absurdity in the news.
